Warren Truss Multi Use bridge over Railway in Tamworth
As part of Bellway Homes application to build 535 new houses at Anker Valley, Tamworth was a requirement to provide a new pedestrian railway bridge over the Derby to Birmingham line to provide access to new schools and leisure facilities.
CTS Bridges worked closely with Amey who had prepared the initial draft proposal for the footbridge for feasibility and planning purposes on behalf of Bellway Homes. CTS then developed this proposal into a full detailed design that was submitted to Staffordshire County Council as the Technical Approval Authority prior to manfuacture.
As the bridge was 56m long it was manufactured in three sections for ease of transport and a trial fit took place at CTS's factory in Shepley prior to delivery. The bridge was delivered in three sections which were then site welded together. Luckily the Anker Valley Development had a large flat free draining area available so the three sections could be delivered. CTS erected tents for site welding the bridge into the full 56m length. A Tuned Mass Damper was designed and incorporated into the bridge to prevent vibration. The bridge was manufactured to a tight timescale as the bridge had to be in place before Bellway Homes could release the new houses for sale. CTS achieved the programme to the delight of the customer.
